Gabion baskets can be used in many ways including rock walls, retaining walls, revetments, weirs, river works, coastal defence systems, soil conservation as well as decorative and architectural applications. The contents of the gabion - the stones or pebbles - are the focal point of the basket.

BC Sands carry a range of stones and pebbles to fill your gabion to achieve different effects in yourlandscape. Cowra White Lucky Stones, River Pebble Lucky Stones and Blue Metal 75-150mm or Blue Metal 90-250mm can all be used in your gabion baskets. Combinations of these stones can produce a dramatic effect. To fill your basket, estimate approximately 240kg of stones for a 525x525x525mm basket, approximately 450kg of stones for a 975x525x525mm and approximately 250kg for a 975x300x525mm basket.

The lifespan of a gabion basket depends on the environment, but generally you can expect a galvanized wire basket to last about 20 years, and Galfan Plus and stainless steel baskets should last two to three times longer.

Other sizes of gabion baskets can be ordered on request, as can stainless steel baskets with a mesh size of 50x50mm, instead of the 75x75mm of the Galfan Plus baskets.
